Ethereum Devs Come Under Fire for Backdoors in L2 and Rollup Solutions

In a surprising turn of events, the crypto community is up against the developers of the largest altcoin network, Ethereum (ETH), after videos emerged detailing some underhand practices.

Particularly, Chris O, an acclaimed Cardano Original Gangster, took to X (aka Twitter) to criticize Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, after a statement he made in an interview became public.

🚨🚨WOW!! V says the quiet part out loud. Every L2 & Rollup on $ETH has a back door for protocol devs🤯 So much for immutable, permissionless & censorship resistance. This is not #Crypto. At this point, I don’t see how anyone can dispute that #Cardano & to a lesser degree $BTC… https://t.co/MHG8IfcZxg

In the video, Buterin said every layer two and rollup on Ethereum has a backdoor for protocol developers to come in and make changes when the need arises. This comment did not sit well with the Cardano community.

Chris O argued that the implication of Buterin’s statement was that the ETH network is not immutable, permissionless, or censorship-resistant as widely claimed. He went on to state that Cardano (ADA) and Bitcoin (BTC) are the only true cryptocurrencies as they do not accommodate backdoors for protocol developers.

While the development attracted wide criticism, some people expressed that the backdoor concept was not unique to crypto. A Twitter user highlighted that tech titans use a similar approach to entrap customers after using their services. The commenter believes the Cardano blockchain stands firm with the crypto goal.

Meanwhile, the intrigue around Ethereum developers did not stop there. In a similar conversation, a prominent figure in the crypto community shared a video where Ethereum developers said they can not stake all of their ETH tokens. Their reason was they understood the working principle of the ETH network. “When you made the sausage, you know how it was made,” one said humorously.

Hey ETH heads 👋

Just wanted to say:

In response, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson found the development fascinating. He highlighted the criticism the Cardano community suffered from ETH developers over some of its blockchain design. “Goodtimes,” he proclaimed.
